Toques et Porcelaine

Biennial event: : next edition: September 2011

“Toques et Porcelaine” (“Chef’s Hats and Porcelain”) is a festive event, organised around an elegant marriage between the gastronomy of the Limousin region and Limoges porcelain. It is held in Limoges city centre, at Place de la Motte, and offers live cookery demonstrations and cocktail shows while showcasing the finest articles of porcelain. The event is organised by the City of Limoges, in association with the local actors in gastronomy and the culinary arts, and is sponsored by the famous chef Jacques Chibois, who originally comes from Limoges.

Semaine du goût

Mid-October in the district of Les Halles and Place de la Motte

The Semaine du Goût has become a benchmark and the largest national event of its kind in the food and catering domain. The City of Limoges takes part in this operation, which provides the opportunity of discovering, or rediscovering, carefully prepared products from the various actors in local gastronomical life. Several key moments punctuate the event such as the frairie des petits-ventres gastronomical festival and the marché du Goût, at the place de la Motte.

Third Friday in October, rue de la Boucherie

The Frairie des petits ventres takes place on the third Friday in October every year. This gathering evokes and commemorates a very special corporation, that of butchers. Over one day, the district of La Boucherie and Les Halles find their roots once again and invite the public to come and sample the specialities of the Limousin region’s butchers and pork butchers, in a convivial atmosphere.

The week before Christmas, Place de la Motte

PThroughout the week before Christmas, at Place de la Motte, you can see about thirty skilled tradesmen and producers, who invite you to share the joys and delicacies of Christmas. From candies to clothes via the famous Limoges porcelain santon figurines... a truly enjoyable event to share with the family or between friends.

Limoges City Council has launched a range of operations christened Cœur de Limoges (“Heart of Limoges”), which are carried out by the Société d’Equipement du Limousin (SELI).  These include renovation programmes for urban living space and heritage, and also activities aimed at revitalising town centre shops and trade.
