With nearly 330,000 plants produced each year, flowers are certainly not in short supply, with talented gardeners taking advantage of the situation to create increasingly impressive flower beds. Diversity is the name of the game: the range is made up of 650 different species and varieties, compared with a mere hundred in the 1980’s. Themed exhibitions take place every year, including flavour and spices, the medieval garden, vegetable haute couture and the plants of the Creole garden. These exhibitions allow visitors to explore new plant collections and generate overwhelming interest with the Limoges inhabitants, as does the dazzling illumination of the city with 8,000 chrysanthemums each autumn.

The collection now ranges from coloured shrubs to low perennial plants and annual flowers, in all their different varieties. The range of colours has considerably increased, allowing all manner of bold colours to be displayed. As a pleasant contrast, plants with graceful silhouettes provide soft harmonies, with the grass family increasingly featuring in the designs, whether the large, poignant silhouette of the miscanthus or the constantly moving masses of pennisetums and foxtail barley. The climbing flowers on structures of chestnut strips form a stunning entrance, launching an assault of colour on the sky and competing with giant tropical plants, colocasia and canna, to produce an ambiance that is out of this world.
